Why does the timing matter?
For families moving to Valencia, school and housing decisions cannot always be handled separately. Private schools may begin admissions well in advance, while applications for public and charter schools are closely connected to your residential address.
A clear timeline helps protect your family’s school choices and avoids placing every important decision in the final weeks before September.
Private & International Schools
The search can begin a year in advance:
Private and international schools manage their own admissions and do not follow one common calendar.
Some accept applications from the autumn preceding the school year. Availability may be particularly limited in certain age groups or when a family needs places for several children.
Starting early provides time to contact schools, compare curricula, complete assessments and consider realistic alternatives.
Public & Charter Schools
The main admission period usually begins in May:
Public and publicly funded charter schools follow the official calendar established by the Valencian education authorities.
The exact dates for 2027–2028 have not yet been published. Based on recent admissions calendars, families should expect the main application process to begin around May 2027.
By then, the preferred area, school options and required documentation should already have been considered.
Housing and School Choice
Your address matters:
For public and charter schools, a family’s residential address can influence admission priority and the schools available within the area.
Securing the right home is therefore also an educational decision.
We assess neighbourhoods according to both your housing needs and your children’s school options, rather than treating the two searches separately.
The Padrón
Municipal registration supports the enrolment process:
Once a suitable home has been secured, the family can complete the padrón at the new address.
This registration helps establish the family’s residence and is an important part of the documentation required during public and charter school procedures.
The earlier the home is secured, the more time there is to complete the registration and prepare the school application properly.
The August Slowdown
Property searches can take longer:
During approximately the final three weeks of August, many agencies work with reduced teams and landlords may be away.
Property viewings, document reviews and final decisions can therefore take longer than usual—at the same time as many families are looking for homes before the new school year.
The market remains active, but the process is less predictable.
Arriving After the Deadline
Enrolment is still possible, but choices is narrower:
Families arriving after the ordinary admissions period can apply through the extraordinary or late-enrolment process.
A child can still access schooling, but the available place will depend on the vacancies remaining at that time.
Starting earlier usually provides more control over the combination of school, neighbourhood and home.
